Am I eligible for a CalABLE account?

To be eligible for an ABLE account, the beneficiary must:

• Have a disability or qualifying medical condition that began before age 46

• Have a U.S. permanent address that is not a Post Office Box

• Have a social security number or a tax identification number

• Confirm one of the following:

  • Is eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) because of a disability

  • Have a condition that:

    • Is expected to last 12 months or longer or result in death, and

    • Causes a marked and severe functional limitation, and

    • Has been diagnosed by a licensed doctor; or

  • Have a condition listed on the Social Security Administration’s "Listing of Impairments" or the “List of Compassionate Allowances Conditions”
